The Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN), a 501(c)3 non-profit, fights the climate crisis one town at a time, with the help of local MCAN chapters – and you!
Our Mission: The Massachusetts Climate Action Network strives to protect the climate through community action in order to ensure a healthy and equitable future for all by replacing fossil fuels with clean, renewable, and sustainable energy through decarbonization and electrification.
How MCAN Works:
- MCAN welcomes, respects, empowers, and partners with people across race, class, education, and income, culture, gender and sexual orientation while including those who have been marginalized by exclusionary policies and people with diverse perspectives, experiences, and skills.
- Municipalities have been the most active level of government to fight climate change on a worldwide basis. MCAN has a significant role as a facilitator of local-level action to dramatically accelerate the replacement of fossil fuel by decarbonization and electrification of buildings.
- MCAN empowers our local groups by enhancing communication, promoting and reducing development time for town-level projects that improve communities and decrease climate change-causing pollution.
- MCAN advances our mission with education, training, research, policy, and advocacy while supporting our statewide network of local groups in these areas.
- MCAN works with all our local groups to improve Massachusetts energy and climate policies and programs and advocates at the state and regional level for policies and programs that will benefit municipalities and their citizens.
- MCAN seeks to accelerate equitable decarbonization of buildings and the electricity supply in Massachusetts by empowering residents, advocates, and community members to take action.
- MCAN supports a statewide network of local advocates by facilitating knowledge-sharing and partnerships among municipal chapters and facilitates peer learning and tool-sharing to replicate successful programs that advance equitable climate solutions.
- MCAN strategically pursues research, education, coordination, and advocacy at the local, regional, and statewide levels. MCAN develops and advocates for interdisciplinary climate solutions alongside local, state, and regional allies to help them take action on climate change.
- MCAN advocates for policies to ensure our cities and towns create pathways for fair, equitable, and just transitions.
- MCAN focuses on municipal light plants that have exceptional opportunities to work with their local communities for a clean and sustainable energy future.
