AI, Data Centers, & Environmental Justice

Join the Mass Climate Action Network (MCAN) and Mass Power Forward on Friday, February 6th at 12pm for a webinar discussion on the impacts of AI and data centers on environmental justice, including here in Massachusetts.

Artificial intelligence (AI) in its current form, replicates hierarchical top-down models that have long been entrenched in both the environmental movement and the broader economy. Without a just and accountable response, these patterns are doomed to repeat themselves. While Big Tech promises progress, people on the ground experience job loss, anxiety, distrust, skepticism, and a fear of being locked out of the future economy. History is repeating itself as data centers fueled by dirty energy and clean water are sited in overburdened and under-resourced sacrificial zones, and as AI companies build their models on extractive and unaccountable knowledge harvesting. Come learn information and perspective on:

  • How AI poses risks to environmental and social justice
  • How AI and data centers can increase your utility bills
  • The state of AI investment and data center development in Massachusetts
  • How we can all make our voices heard to protect Massachusetts.

We will present and have a Q&A for the first hour, followed by open discussion from 1-1:30pm.
