Assess decarbonization status in your municipality. Climate Goals Tracker provides key decarbonization data and goals for each Massachusetts city and town.
In 2025, MCAN led the collaborative effort to develop this long-needed, powerful, new tool. It assists local climate activists in growing the adoption of the essential residential climate mitigation measures: electric vehicles, residential heatpumps, and solar panels. The free portal instantly shows the latest implementation data and how much further a community needs to go each year to meet state-wide goals.Â
Massachusetts's Global Warming Solutions Act mandates 50% greenhouse gas emissions reduction by 2030 (relative to 1990). From that, the Commonwealth derived statewide numerical goals for the adoption of the key residential technologies: 900,000 electric vehicles, 500,000 heat pumps, and 8,350 megawatts of solar photovoltaics. Climate Goals Tracker translates these statewide goals to individual municipalities.
Community activists help achieve the 2030 goals by mobilizing more and more residents to adopt the three technologies.
Carbon Goals Tracker is a collaborative project of Massachusetts Climate Action Network, Green Energy Consumer Alliance, and MassEnergize. It is engineered by Dr. Zana Cranmer, Bentley University.
MCAN encourages all climate advocates: track progress in your municipality.
