Can Obama Trump-proof the planet? The Climate Minute Podcast
Good news this week: President Obama acted to protect a vast stretch of underwater area from fossil fuel exploitation. This suggests he know what is coming, and is working to protect the planet from the Trump-oil agenda. Â On top of that, a court case that will allow a full legal presentation of climate science will go forward in the State of Washington.
In case you are a little shaky on your constitutional trivia answers, the Emolument Clause is in Article 1, Section 9 of the US Constitution. Â Donald Trump must swear to âpreserve, protect and defendâ this along with all the other clauses in the document. Here it is:Â
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.

The next four years will call for all of us to stand up for what we believe. The shape of our future can be seen in the bravery of the Standing Rock Sioux, the âDrive for 15â movement, and the opposition to the West Roxbury pipeline. Bill McKibben gives an overview, saying âVolunteering for pain is an unlikely event in a pleasure-based society, and hence it gets noticed. Nonviolent direct action is just one tool in the activist tool kit, and it should be used sparinglyâlike any tool, it can easily get dull, both literally and figuratively. But when it is necessary to underline the moral urgency of a case, the willingness to go to jail can be very powerful, precisely because it goes against the bent of normal life.â Listen in!
